About the Event
In partnership with Hinton Publishing, Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is pleased to welcome author Dr. Edward Taylor in conversation with Indigenous leader and advocate Colleen Echohawk on his new memoir The Power of the River.
In The Power of the River, Dr. Taylor takes readers on a journey from a childhood in Lompoc, California marked by loss but grounded in family and community, to a full scholarship at Gonzaga University, and ultimately to his role as Dean and Vice Provost at the University of Washington. Faced with the questions every young Black man on a basketball scholarship has heard, Taylor answers by examining himself, everything that brought him to this place, and all that he hopes to bring to the world.
At its heart, The Power of the River is a meditation on love, grace, forgiveness, and growth. Taylor celebrates the many people who lift us up along the way,…
