About the Event

Anthony Robinson will be joined by Seattle Pacific University faculty members Sara Koenig, David Nienhuis and Rob Wall, to explore the role of the Bible in a “post-biblical age.” “From Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King Jr., American leaders have drawn on the Bible’s stories and images. Is that still possible? Is it appropriate? What role, if any, does the Bible play in American culture and society? Has it, too, fallen victim to the Culture Wars? How is the Bible read and used in various churches? Are some uses better than others? Who says?” Join us for a lively discussion of these open questions.

About the Panelists

Sara Koenig (Ph.D. Princeton Theological Seminary) is Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at Seattle Pacific University, her undergraduate alma mater. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA), she enjoys teaching in churches around the Seattle area in addition to teaching her students. Her primary approach to the Bible is literary and theological, with special interest in ethical implications.

David Nienhuis  (Ph.D., University of Aberdeen) is Professor of New Testament Studies at Seattle Pacific University. He teaches undergraduate courses in scripture, Christian formation, and reconciliation studies, as well as graduate courses in scripture for Seattle Pacific Seminary.

Rob Wall (ThD, Dallas Theological Seminary) is the Paul T. Walls Professor of Scripture and Wesleyan Studies at Seattle Pacific University. He is an elder of the Free Methodist Church who enjoys an active ecumenical ministry of preaching and teaching adult Bible studies in congregations of various faith traditions.
