About the Event
Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is pleased to welcome poets Liz Marlow, Gary Lemons, and Jake Rose, each arriving with a remarkable new collection. Liz Marlow's The Ground Never Lets Go follows Sara, a Jewish girl coming of age in Nazi Germany, bearing witness to unimaginable suffering while holding fast to survival and hope. Gary Lemons's Collateral moves through illness, deprivation, and loss to ask how we respond to the suffering of others, whether we risk everything in service, turn away, or build our lives somewhere in between. Jake Rose's debut, JOAN, collapses biography and autobiography to explore queer identity, grief, and desire through the life of Joan of Arc, refusing easy resolution in in favor of fluidity, reinvention, and becoming.
