As America marks 250 years, this conversation invites you to explore essential biographies and memoirs tracing the lives of the men and women whose struggles and activism have shaped American democracy. This conversation is part of Folio's participation in the American Conversation Project, a national initiative led by the National Conference on Citizenship in partnership with Cortico.


Guided by a curated reading list, we invite you to read one book or several from the list, then join us in person at Folio to discuss how the civil rights battles of the past continue to shape democracy today and what lessons they can teach and demand of us as citizens.
