Folio is pleased to announce the return of a notable chamber ensemble, the Fulton Street Chamber Players, in two live, in-person concerts this spring!
The Seattle-based Chamber Players, anchored by two Seattle Symphony players, Walter Gray, cello, and Rachel Swerdlow, viola, invite noted other professional musicians to fill out the ensembles. Performances are in the round, which puts audience members close enough to read the music on the stands. This is the sixth season of the Players at Folio. All audience members are invited to join the musicians for a wine reception .
April's concert will continue the group's celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday with a performance of Beethoven's "Harp" string quartet (op. 74) . The Harp quartet, written in 1809 during the French occupation of Vienna, is named (by the publisher) for a plucked or harp-like section in the first movement. The second string quartet this evening will be Mendelssohn's op. 44 #2, composed in 1837 and noted for the emergence of Mendelssohn's true voice after earlier works shadowed by Beethoven. Joining Swerdlow and Gray for these quartets will be violinists Hal Grossman and Kate Ransom.
