About the Event

Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is delighted to welcome James Falzone, composer, penny whistles, clarinet, shruti box and bells, Luke Fitzpatrick and Alex Guy, violins, Erin Wight, viola & Rose Bellini, cello, for Mystery of Winter Skies: Music for Penny Whistle and String Quartet.

The music in Mystery of Winter Skies offers a meditation on the mysteries of existence, inspired by a liturgical text comparing the Maker of the Universe to the vast “otherness” of a winter sky. Drawing from the contemplative soundscapes, the music forms textures intended to invite prayer, reflection, and a deeper awareness of mystery.

Though made up of distinct sections, it unfolds as a seamless suite, functioning less as a concert and more as a sonic journey into contemplation. Some moments may soothe, others may stir, and others simply rest, each encouraging listeners toward their own understanding of mystery, their own winter skies.
