About the Event

Join us for a four week introductory series of mindfulness training, enhanced with practices, readings, and talks conducted by Jerry Harter from the Seattle Insight Meditation Center (SIMS).

Dates in this series:

  • Mon, Oct 19
  • Mon, Oct 26
  • Mon, Nov 2
  • Mon, Nov 9

Jerry first became interested in Buddhism and meditation while leading high school students on trips to South and Southeast Asia during the 1980’s.  His initial interest developed into a regular practice after attending a week long retreat with Ruth Denison in 1985.  Since then he has regularly attended extended meditation retreats and has been guided in his practice by various senior insight meditation teachers from the US, England and Burma.

His meditation practice is in the Theravadan tradition of Southeast Asia.  Jerry has been practicing with the Seattle Insight Meditation Society since its beginning in the 1990’s and has been a mentor for beginning students, facilitated neighborhood sitting groups, and has taught meditation classes.  He finds nature to be especially supportive of his practice, values practicing mindfulness in all aspects of life, and particularly appreciates the Buddhist instruction of ‘See for yourself.’
