About the Event

Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is thrilled to annoucne the return of Folio Philosophy Club, in collaboration with Professor Jason Frederick Lambacher, Ph.D. Political Science, University of Washington. The club will meet monthly on the last Thursday at Folio over the next 6 month,  starting August 29.

What does it mean to live a good life? In this discussion group, Jason guides us through life lessons from history's greatest philosophers with the help of author Eric Weiner's book, The Socrates Express: In Search of Life Lessons from Dead Philosophers. In The Socrates Express, Weiner combines his twin passions for philosophy and travel in a globe-trotting pil-grimage that uncovers surprising life lessons from great thinkers around the world, from Rousseau to Nietzsche, Confucius to Simone Weil.

Each essay will be paired with short, primary readings from the featured philosopher and thinkers in the book. Whether you're new to philosophy or searching for practical and spiritual lessons to help you navigate today's chaotic times, this club is a great place to start your journey.

Jason Frederick Lambacher is a University Lecturer at the University of Washington Bothell, where he teaches Political Theory, International Relations, Environmental Political Theory, Environmental Ethics, Global Environmental Politics, Global Justice & Activism, and Philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Washington. Lambacher has taught various courses, including American Government & Politics, Art & Politics of Walking, Art & Politics of Comedy, Contemporary Political Ideas & Ideologies, Democracy, Human Rights and Climate Chaos, Power & Freedom, Environmental Ethics, Global Environmental Politics, Global Justice Activism & NGOs, and Individuality & Individualism. He is a member of the King County Citizen Election Oversight Committee (KCEOC), a 16-member group that advises the King County Council on voter access, public confidence in election administration, and issues surrounding transparency and discrimination.
