About the Event

Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum invites you on a journey to discover the life and work of Willa Cather, prominent American author of the early twentieth century celebrated for her vivid portrayals of the frontier experience. Led by Folio librarian Lillian Dabney.

A vivid sense of place is an important element in Cather's fiction, where landscapes and domestic spaces become dynamic presences against which her characters struggle and find community. Cather stands among other great authors such as  Melville, James, Wharton, Hemingway, Faulkner, Ellison, and Morrison. She left behind a canon that was both plainspoken and elegant, accessible yet nuanced and we will explore some of her best work.

The discussions will be held on Zoom on the fourth Wednesday of the month, view the full schedule for details.
