Access to our reading rooms is restricted to help slow the spread of COVID-19 as per Washington State Phase 3 guidelines. Beginning on Tuesday, June 01, 2021 we will reopen with limited seating available for reading or using one’s own electronic devices. Please be aware that the library may look and feel a bit different than it did before the COVID-19 pandemic. Seating will be available in the Main Reading Room and Elliott Bay Room only. The Northwest Room and Kitchen will not be accessible at this time. A face mask must be worn at all times. Filters have been installed in our HVAC system. Additionally, our library windows may be open to facilitate air circulation, so we encourage you to wear layers or warm clothing when you visit the library.

As part of our reopening, we have several new library rules. All members must abide by these rules to ensure Folio compliance with the local, state, and federal regulations and best practices.

  • Face Coverings – All members, staff, and visitors must wear face masks at all times.

  • Health Checks – Anyone not feeling well should stay home.

  • Social Distancing – Please maintain a safe social distance of at least six feet from one another. All library furniture takes this into account, please do not move or change the furniture layout.

  • Food & Beverages – We regret that no food or beverages are allowed in the library at this time.

To ensure the health and safety of everyone visiting Pike Place Market and the Economy Building where Folio is located, additional safety measures and increased cleaning of high touch areas have been put in place. Review all Pike Place Market safety measures before you visit.

While the library is open for work, we strongly recommend that you continue to view our catalog online even if you plan to visit, so that we can have your books and materials ready when you arrive. This will help us maintain social distancing requirements and additionally facilitate safer materials checkout.

You can now drop off your books and pick up your holds with our contactless service at our front door on the 3rd floor. All circulating materials are quarantined for 24 hours after they are returned. Place holds on items in our catalog and pick up within 48 hours. Email us at if you would like to have your book mailed to you.

At this time all of our programs will continue to be presented online via Zoom.  Everyone can sign up for our FREE public programs: 400 YEARS of RACISM reading series and Shared Inquiry workshop. View recordings of past programs on Vimeo.
