About the Event

Henry Ossawa Tanner, Robert Duncanson, Augusta Savage, Aaron Douglas, Romare Bearden, and Kara Walker: these are a few of the great Black artists who shaped American art. Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum is delighted to welcome Sean Forester, a classically trained painter and literary discussion leader, for a lecture on the art and lives of Great Black American Artists.

Sean will connect several of their paintings to the plays of August Wilson, who was featured in the Folio Author Study and has a close connection to Seattle.

Sean Forester has a BA from the St. John's College Great Books Program and an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University, where he studied on a Rotary Scholarship. Sean leads online seminars for the London Literary Salon and European art tours for Classical Pursuits. He studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, and currently teaches drawing and painting at the Golden Gate Atelier.
