Remnants of Rain: Piano Solo Improvisations with Brian Kimmel

On this Valentine's Day, Folio invites you to a ritual of gathering through a one-of-a-kind, in the moment composition and a brief introduction to the deeply felt and experiential work of Seattle-based pianist and composer, Brian Kimmel.

The featured work, The Remnants of Rain, is a free-form lyrical composition in five movements. Touch. Convergence. Wholeness. Path. Remnants. It is drawn from an experience the artist had more than a decade ago at a meditation center in the South of France with the Venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. The Remnants of Rain was first composed and recorded in a single, unedited take at ShophiaHat Studios in Seattle, and mixed and mastered by Caleb Kronen in Boulder, Colorado.

A part self-studied and classically trained pianist, Brian Kimmel learned piano by ear from early childhood then with numerous teachers including Jazz pianist and composer, Ludwilla Brown. For a period in his adolescence, Kimmel's music saved his life. What inspires him the most is the capacity of music to heal. It can be a powerful source of energy and communication that defies political and cultural boundaries, builds bridges, and brings people together.  Visit for links and more details.
